Petrol and diesel prices in the UAE have been hiked for the first time in 2023. The UAE fuel price committee announced the prices of fuel for the month of February 2023 and the prices see a marginal increase when compared to January.
Petrol prices in the UAE for February 2023 start off at Dh2.86 for Plus 9, while Special 95 is priced at Dh2.93 and the most expensive petrol option is Super 98 coming in at Dh3.05 per litre. Diesel too is slightly more expensive, coming at Dh3.38 per litre. These prices will come into effect on 01 February 2023 and are expected to remain until the end of the month.
In January 2023, motorists in the UAE got some respite from rising fuel prices. At the start of the year, the price of petrol dropped by Dh0.52 across all variants and the price of diesel dropped by Dh0.45. However, prices are now once again on the rise.
While diesel prices in the UAE for February see an increase of just Dh0.09, petrol prices have increased by Dh0.27 across all variants. This, however, is only a marginal increase in prices and is not expected to affect motorists across the country negatively.
Getting a full tank of fuel for your car is expected to become more expensive by around Dh14 to Dh20. However, the per kilometre running costs do not increase by any significant margins. Despite the price increase, the new prices fall short of most of last year’s monthly prices.
This increase in fuel prices comes amidst an increase in the prices of crude oil. Prior to 2015, fuel prices were highly subsidised by the government and this protected prices from fluctuating. However, in September 2015, it was liberalised to align with global oil prices.
