Rolls-Royce Spectre Waiting Period Stretches Into 2025 — Deliveries Of The First Rolls-Royce EV to Begin Soon

The Rolls-Royce Spectre is probably the most luxurious electric car yet, and waiting periods for the EV have already crossed into 2025. Even before the Rolls-Royce Spectre goes into production, waiting periods have stretched beyond the 15-month target set by Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce makes some of the most luxurious, evocative, and desirable cars on the planet. Billionaires of the world own multiple standard-issue Rolls-Royce cars and while getting one’s hands on a standard Rolls-Royce is in itself a tough task, getting a custom-made Rolls-Royce is on another level.

To own a bespoke Rolls-Royce produced specifically to your tastes takes more than just wealth. It takes a few months to manufacture a custom-made Rolls-Royce car and the waiting period just increases in proportion to the exclusivity. The Rolls-Royce Spectre is the perfect example of this.

The Rolls-Royce Spectre was first announced in September 2021 and the British marque also announced that testing of the new EV had begun. It would be the first proper production electric vehicle made by Rolls-Royce. Based on the same platform as the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Spectre certainly is very special.

Electric mobility is taking the automotive world by storm and there isn’t a single manufacturer wanting to be left out. Rolls-Royce first displayed its EV intentions back in 2011 when it showcased the 102EX prototype based on the Phantom. This was done to gauge the response of customers and stakeholders.

The Rolls-Royce 102EX, also known as the Phantom Experimental Electric, was praised for its impressive ride quality and luxurious feel. However, customers weren’t too happy with its 200-kilometre range. It was only a prototype and hence Rolls-Royce had only used a small 71kWh battery pack.

More than a decade later, Rolls-Royce came back with the lessons learned from the 102 EX experiment, integrated into the Spectre. The Rolls-Royce Spectre is powered by two electric motors borrowed from parent company BMW and they have a combined output of around 577hp. The 100kWh battery pack gives the luxury EV a range of just over 510 kilometres.

It will come loaded with all the luxury and opulence typical of a Rolls-Royce flagship. It does come with the Rolls-Royce design language, but it is adapted to give it a more futuristic styling. Think of a futuristic and extremely stylish version of the Rolls-Royce Wraith, and you have the Spectre. The Spectre is also the most aerodynamically efficient Rolls-Royce yet with a drag coefficient of 0.25.

As a result of these brilliant specs, demand for the Rolls-Royce Spectre is extremely high. The CEO of Rolls-Royce Torsten Müller-Ötvös recently revealed that the waiting period for the Spectre has stretched into 2025. He was quoted as saying, “If you would order today, you probably would take delivery in 2025.” Series production of the Spectre and deliveries are expected to start towards the end of 2023.
