2024 Mitsubishi Triton L200 Debuts — A Major Overhaul After 9 Years: Ford Ranger In Danger?

Mitsubishi has finally unveiled the new 2024 Triton pickup truck to the world. The Triton is also on sale in the UAE dubbed as the L200. The new truck features new underpinnings, design changes and is loaded with a host of features. We can expect the new pickup to hit the UAE market later this year. The Japanese marquee has updated the pickup truck to its fifth generation after 9 years. Read on to know everything about the 2024 Triton L200 pickup truck.

Changes Overview

The upgraded model features a larger, robust body with a durable ladder frame and an efficient, environmentally-friendly engine. It boasts improved suspension for comfort and stability, along with a Super Select 4WD-II system for high-road performance. The front face exudes reliability, complemented by a functional and classy interior. Furthermore, safety and comfort have been significantly enhanced for various purposes.

Cab Configurations

The all-new L200 is offered in three body types:

  • Double-cab: Two rows of seats providing a blend of SUV comfort and pickup truck utility.
  • Basic single-cab: One row of seats for simple functionality & larger load bay
  • Club-cab: Cargo space behind the front seats with the added benefit of reclining capability.

Exterior Changes

The all-new Mitsubishi Triton L200 features a front-face design called “Dynamic Shield,” conveying power and safety. It includes a robust, three-dimensional front grille and fenders with protective elements. The daytime running lights have a hawk-like appearance and are a 3-unit setup. 

Looking from the side, The truck features squared wheel arches and all-around body cladding for a rugged look. Functional design elements include an aerodynamic cabin shape, steps for the cargo bed, and wider side steps with better water drainage.

  • The cargo bed height is lowered by 820 mm. 
  • New body colors include Yamabuki Orange Metallic and Blade Silver Metallic.
  • Top trim features a body-colored front grille, black accents for door mirrors, Dynamic Shield garnish, and plated components.

Interior Changes

The interior of the all-new Triton L200 is designed with the Horizontal Axis concept, ensuring easy visibility of the vehicle. The instrument console interestingly features analogue dials to keep the enthusiast happy. The floating or free-standing 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system offers connected technology, smartphone integration, and even features AI chat.

Interior Features:

  • Geometric shapes and metallic elements create a high-contrast, modern space.
  • Selectors, dials, and switches offer optimal sensitivity for glove-friendly operation.
  • Mitsubishi Touch approach is applied to the steering wheel, grips, and door handles.
  • USB A and C sockets, along with a wireless charger.

Chassis & Suspension

  • Newly developed ladder frame has a 60% increase in torsional rigidity.
  • The body is lighter than the previous model despite its increase in dimension thanks to the new 1180 MPa high-tensile steel material.
  • The front suspension mounting arm is relocated for 20mm increased travel.
  • The rear suspension features a lighter leaf spring system and thicker shock absorbers.

Engine Specs & Drive Modes

The newly developed 4N16 clean diesel engine offers three output specifications. All versions feature a variable geometry turbocharger for variable turbine capacity control. The diesel engine comes paired with either a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual with shift-by-wire tech. Here are all output figures from all three states of tune.

  • High State of Tune: 201hp, 470 Nm torque.
  • Mid State of Tune: 181hp; 430 Nm torque.
  • Low State of Tune: 148hp; 330 Nm torque.

The all-new Triton L200 features Mitsubishi Motors’ Super Select 4WD-II and Easy Select 4WD systems. The Super Select 4WD-II has a center torque sensing Limited Slip Differential (LSD) distributing driving force at a 40% front and 60% rear ratio, ensuring excellent traction and cornering performance with the ability to shift to 4WD mode while driving using a dial selector. 

  • Models with Super Select 4WD-II offer four options: 2H, 4H, 4HLc, and 4LLc.
  • Seven drive modes are available, including on-road modes.
  • 2H has Eco mode, and 4H has Gravel and Snow modes.
  • 4HLc has Mud and Sand modes for traction, while 4LLc provides Rock mode.
  • Easy Select 4WD models have 2H, 4H, and 4L options for low-gear driving.

Safety

The all-new Triton L200 features Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) for tracking and maintaining a preset distance from the vehicle in front. It also includes enhanced safety features like Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and more.

  • AYC newly adopted for Super Select 4WD-II models improves cornering performance with light braking on the inside front wheel during turns.
  • Both 2WD and 4WD models have active LSD (brake control type) for distributing torque to improve traction on slippery surfaces.
  • Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), and Hill Start Assist (HSA) are offered as standard.
