Hyundai has unveiled the new 2024 Kona electric for the US market. The new Hyundai Kona features an updated exterior design, reworked interiors and additional features. Hyundai has also made slight improvements to the Kona’s electric powertrain for enhanced performance.
New Kona Electric Design
For the 2024 Kona, Hyundai did something unusual. Instead of starting with a regular car and turning it into an electric one, they began with an electric car and added some conventional features. This change led to a futuristic design that focuses a lot on the electric aspect, making the Kona look both fancy and robust at the same time.
- The new Kona Electric achieves exceptional aerodynamic performance with a drag coefficient of only 0.27.
- Its exterior design combines sleekness and ruggedness, highlighting its unique EV-centric features.

New Kona Electric Interiors
The new Kona’s interiors have been refreshed to match its larger proportions. Here are some highlighted changes on the 2024 Kona EV:
- Dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrument console.
- Driver controls have been relocated around the steering wheel.
- Front seats are 30% slimmer to maximize rear passenger legroom.
- A two-stage latching system allows for rear seat reclining.
- The second-row seat and rear compartment are fully foldable.
- Ambient interior lighting options are available.
- Smart Power Tailgate enhances loading convenience.
New Kona Electric Powertrain
The new Kona EV is offered with two electric powertrain options. The lower-spec variant features a 99kW electric motor paired with a 48.6kWh battery pack producing 133hp and 255Nm. This variant of the Kona EV features a range of 317km per charge.
On the other hand, the higher-spec variant features a 150kW electric motor paired with a 64.8kWh battery pack producing 201hp and 255Nm. This variant of the Kona EV features a range of 420km per charge. Both variants feature 400-volt DC fast charging that juice up the battery from 10% to 80% in 43 minutes.

- i-PEDAL driving mode enables one-pedal driving.
- A new charging port door lamp improves nighttime visibility.
- Battery preconditioning ensures secure charging in cold temperatures.
- Smart Regenerative System optimizes regenerative braking based on traffic conditions.
- Exterior Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability allows powering devices or charging equipment.
- Devices and appliances can be connected via an available V2L adapter from the front charging port.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric will be launched in the US in October 2023. We can expect the new Kona to hit the Middle Eastern markets sometime early next year.
